John McCarty

John is a local artist and has been active in the Orange County art scene for the last decade. He studied under the renowned printmaker Barry Moser while a student at Williston School in Massachusetts, and currently shows his watercolors and pen & ink drawings at The Cove Gallery in Laguna Beach.

John has participated in the Laguna Beach Summer Art Festivals beginning with the Art-A-Fair in 1996 and continuing in 1997 and 1998. In 1996 as a result of his Art-A-Fair shows, John was invited to show his artwork at the Gallery Margrete in Paris, France. His artwork was displayed there for several years. In 2006, John showed his pen & ink work at the premier art show of the summer, The Festival of Arts.

John became an art instructor with the San Juan Capistrano Adult Continuing Education program in 2001, and taught in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2006, John is teaching both a watercolor class and a pen & ink class.

John’s watercolors are very evocative featuring neutral earth tones. His subject matter typically features lone sailors, lighthouses, sailboats under a pale moon, or scenes from American farms. His pen & ink drawings showcase famous poets and authors, or anonymous artists seen in a natural setting.
